Welcome to our unique holiday destination in the heart of Upper Bavaria. You can get to Kochel am See, located 60 km south of Bavaria's capital Munich, easily by car (highway A 95 Munich - Garmisch-Partenkirchen) or by train (Munich - Kochel).
Relax in a sound and beautiful environment with two picturesque lakes "Kochelsee" and "Walchensee", green hills, mountains and wide moorland. This great variety of landscapes offers numerous hiking-trails, short walks as well as half-day and full-day tours.
Kochel am See is a typical Bavarian village with 12 districts and a total of 4,400 inhabitants. Kochel is featured by an infrastructure that will meet all your needs for a pleasant holiday: some shops, pharmacies, doctors, banks, post-office, petrol-station, garages, public transport by bus and train...
We offer suitable accomodation for every taste: bed and breakfasts, guest-houses, hotels, apartments, farm stays, camp sites and a youth hostel. You will also find a wide range of restaurants with typical Bavarian cuisine.
Kochel am See has a great choice of sites and attractions that will create your stay interesting and diversified.
The swimming and recreation centre "trimini" is offering many indoor and outdoor facilities like two enormous water-slides (160 m and 90 m), various swimming pools, sauna, solarium etc. It is located directly at the lake and is a highlight on sunny and rainy days. Your whole family will love it!
Enjoy the panorama and the scenic view of the alps! You can reach the top of Mt. Herzogstand in only a 4 minutes-ride with the gondola "Herzogstandbahn". After an easy hike of 45 minutes you will stand on the peak of one of King Ludwig II favourite mountains, rewarded by a breathtaking, panoramic view. There is also a restaurant up there, with a great terrace.
If you are interested in modern arts, Kochel am See is proud to possess a "small treasure", the Franz Marc Museum. Franz Marc (1880-1916) had been living in the area of Kochel am See for several years. He is called to be the most important Bavarian atist of modern times. The museum also displays pictures and artworks of his friends, Kandinsky, Münter and Klee. They were all inspired by the fascinating nature of our region. In June 2008 the new Franz Marc Museum was opened with an important art collection of modern art of the 20th century.
There are many other things to do and see in Kochel am See and the surrounding area: - Hydraulic power station Walchensee: The visitor centre explains the technical process of transforming water into electrical power in a very interesting way
- Go for a walk through the village and visit the St. Michael Church, beautiful old farm-houses and the monument of the famous blacksmith of Kochel, a Bavarian hero of 1705
- Round trip by ship on the lake (only in summer)
- Monasteries in the villages Benediktbeuern and Schlehdorf
- Open-air-museum "Glentleiten": old Bavarian buildings were re-erected in their original style; in some of these houses typical handicraft of past times is being showed.

There are lot`s of further attractions that can be reached by only a one to two hours drive: the cities Munich, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Innsbruck (Austria) or the world-famous castles of King Ludwig II, "Neuschwanstein" and "Linderhof", are only a few examples.
If you want to spend "active holidays", you'll find a huge choice of possibilities: tennis courts, well-prepared hiking-trails and bike-trails, bike rental, boat rental, dive schools, surf school in Walchensee, fishing at both lakes and the river "Loisach", miniature golf, alpine skiing, cross country skiing and much more.
