The village Walchensee, 803 m a.s.l., with its 613 inhabitants is a famous climatic health resort at the west waterside of the identically named lake, situated at the foot of the prominent mountain Herzogstand. Walchensee belongs to the the community Kochel am See as well as the on the north shore located Urfeld and in the south west located Einsiedl and Zwergern. The picturesque villages have maintained their rural character, which on one hand reflects in the traditonal costumes worn and on the other hand in the overall appearance of the villages. They enchant with their historical buildings like the Klösterl with its Margarethen-Kircherl (church) on the peninsula Zwergern as well as with all the neat Bavarian houses with the colourful flowers on the pretty, carved balconies. The country-style guesthouses, hotels and cafés with sun patios and beergardens and all the rampant meadows and pastures - this combination makes Walchensee a unique holiday paradise. Homely celebrations with brass band music and dance, folkloric evenings, concerts and theatrical performances round off your perfect holiday. In Walchensee you find a grocery with a butcher and bakery as well as a few guest houses, cafés , bar, kiosk, bowling alley, surfing shop, fishing shop and a bank. For our "little" guests there awaits a playground and miniature golf. You can also rent bikes, rowing and pedal boats and windsurfing equipment or play a match of tennis. You will also find nice beaches and a community garden directly by the village. Einsiedl is a hamlet with a restaurant, rental of rowing boats, sailing boats, pedal boats, canoes and bicycles and a diving school with a filling station. The beach in Einsiedl is ideal for children because the water is initially very shallow here.
The village Urfeld which lies at the north shore of the lake offers 1 restaurant and a café with grocery and fishing equipment, rowing boat, pedal boat, sailing boat and bike rental. The waterside between Urfeld and Sachenbach offers gorgeous beaches and invites you to a prolonged walk.
In all villages you will find bus stops of the RVO (regional public transport RVO Regionalverkehr Oberbayern). The villages Altlach, Niedernach and Sachenbach at the south and east part of the lake belong to the borough Jachenau.
