By car

The easiest way to reach Walchensee by car is via the motorway (Autobahn) A95 Munich - Garmisch-Partenkirchen, exit Nr. 10 Murnau/Kochel; then via Kochel am See carry on to Walchensee (23 km from the Autobahn exit). Please note that there is no petrol station in Walchensee. The closest petrol stations to Walchensee are in Kochel am See (14 km north of Walchensee) and Krün (12 km south of Walchensee)

By train

You can reach Walchensee by train from Munich to Kochel am See. From Kochel there is a bus (regional public transport RVO Regionalverkehr Oberbayern) which takes you directly to Walchensee.  Here you can directly access the train timetable and further information

By bus

Travelling by public transport there are possibilities to reach Walchensee from Kochel am See, Bad Tölz, Murnau, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Klais and Mittenwald. Here you can directly access the bus timetable (in german)

By aeroplane

Walchensee lies 114 km from airport Munich. To travel from the airport Munich-Erding  to Walchensee by car first follow the signs in the direction of Munich; then follow the signs to the A 95 Munich-Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Leave the A 95 at the exit Murnau/Kochel; carry on via Kochel am See to Walchensee (approximately 23 km from the exit A 95). Please note that there is no petrol station in Walchensee. The closest petrol stations to Walchensee are in Kochel am See (14 km north of Walchensee) and Krün (12 km south of Walchensee).

To reach Walchensee from the airport by train: First take the S-Bahn to Munich main station (MWW - please click here). Then carry on by train line Munich-Tutzing-Kochel. From Kochel a bus of the public transport (Regionalverkehr Oberbayern RVO) will take you directly to Walchensee.

Note for motor cyclists

On weekends and public holidays the B 11 (Kesselbergstraße) from Kochel am See to Walchensee is closed for motor cyclists (not relevant for motorbikes with engines less than 50cc restricted to 30-50 km/h). The alternative to reach Walchensee by motorbike is via Garmisch-Partenkirchen - Krün - Wallgau or via Jachenau.
